The Only Cooperative Person At The Photo Shoot

In another attempt to save some money this holiday season we’ve forgone our annual trip to the professional photographer.  After this experience I am pretty sure we’ll be traveling there again for their birthday pictures.  It was a basic disaster.

Big Sister was agreeable almost the whole time…although her forced smile left a lot to be desired.  It was Little Sister who was a mess.  First it took us almost an hour to convince her to put on her holiday dress.  And most of that time was spent with her in her room screaming that she didn’t want to put it on.  But eventually she decided it wasn’t so bad after all.  Of course, then she had no interest in standing beside Big Sister or the Snowman.  And don’t ask me about getting her to smile.  She does frowning on command though.

But this will be a good indication of both our family and our girls from this year.  The last few months haven’t been very kind or agreeable either personally or professionally.  Big Sister is trying out some of the things that differentiate girls from boys in our culture…makeup, nail polish, clip on earrings.   And her transformation from baby to childhood is almost complete.  On the other hand, Little Sister is doing her terrible twos at 4.5 years.  Everything is a battle and an arguement.  And it was in full effect during this photo session.

Now it’s time for The Wife and I to see if we can salvage something from these photos.  I have eight that might work.  Then into Photoshop (actually the open source program Gimp) to clean up what we can.  Hopefully we’ll have everything out by the first night of Hannukah.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I am not looking forward to pictures this year either. Big Brother has just hit the terrible twos at 3. He has all of a sudden decided to do everything in his power not to go to bed at night. From refusing to change his diaper, to not getting his pajamas on, to screaming for two hours once we get him in bed. After his party on Sat, we put him in bed around 8:30 and he did not fall asleep until around 10:30. Last night was a little better as it was only 1.5 hours before he fell asleep. The wife and I have decided to ignore him and let him fall asleep when he falls asleep and hope he does not wake up the baby.

When does the pain stop? Or does it just move? 🙂

I just did cards this year for the holidays with every day pictures. Last year I did this whole photo shoot with Big Sister dressed as Santa with mock presents etc. This year it’s a picture of us leaving the hospital with Little Brother. Dear Husband is none too pleased to be on the card.

I think I will spend next year looking at each and every photo and wondering, “can I use this for the holiday cards?”

And then I will slowly gouge my liver out with a spork.

BTW, congrats on the new addition to the family.
